Maven Floral and Event Styling Re-Design

No surprise that I’m a huge Maven Floral & Event Styling fan (the best in Minnesota!!). So when Jenny asked me if I wanted in on her business re-design, I shouted a hearty “aye”! Especially when I found out she would be adding Kelly Bollis to her team.

I have had the privilege of working with Kelly several times, both in front of my camera and behind-the-scenes stuff, and I know she will be a creative and fun addition to Maven. One of their first events as a team happened to be my own 10th Anniversary Party (which reminds me, I should post some of the photos from that)!

Check out this blog post to see more of the photos from this re-design and hear more about the new Maven from Jenny’s perspective. If you are looking for fab florals and brilliant styling for your wedding/party/event, do yourself a favor and contact these two. They are so great at what they do that you might call them…wait for it…mavens. 😉

I also offer styled sessions in conjunction with Maven and Maureen Klehr. Contact me for more information about those!

Traditions (a.k.a. Fastest Summer in the Midwest)

This summer (though portions of it can only loosely be termed as such) has flown by more than any other in my memory. Family visits, gardening, traveling puppet wagon shows, swimming lessons, camping, ballet, parties with friends, etc., etc. I hope that in “making memories” and crossing things off our Summer Fun List (yes, we actually make one…for every season!) we are actually doing that: making memories. I want my kids to grow up with a strong sense of tradition.

Each season meant certain things to me growing up. Summer was a week in Kennedy with my grandparents, evenings on Maple Lake on the pontoon boat with friends (and Cheez-balls and Twizzlers and Mom’s molasses cookies), many flavors of Kool-Aid in fancy glasses, and a visit to our Twin Cities family members and Valleyfair. Fall was school and football and marching band and those last few rounds of golf. Winter was fragrant things baking in the kitchen, lighting the tree, sledding and cliff-jumping with pals, digging tunnels in the drifts in our front yard. Spring was golf again (though often in the Winter Shows Building until May), blooming trees and Easter egg hunts, pastel dresses and palm branches, rainy afternoons with a Pop Tart in hand.

The rhythms of each season are a signal to me. I want my kids to bask in the late summer humidity, knowing that the MN State Fair can’t happen without it (or at least it seems that way!). I want the turning of the leaves to signal to them trips to Sweetland Orchard and booya at the fire station. I want winter to be hot cocoa and Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls and car rides to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving. And so on.

Are traditions important to you? I’d love to hear things that make the seasons special for your family!

Baby Adelyn & Family

Sometimes you photograph a couple or a family and they become your friends. Sometimes you have the pleasure of photographing already-friends. Both of these are huge privileges. And with this family, I’ve gotten to do both. When I photographed their firstborn, we were just becoming friends, and now that they are welcoming their third, a beautiful daughter, we can say that they are friends we treasure deeply.

Baby Adelyn, you are so loved! We hope you and your family will enjoy these images of this precious and fleeting time for years to come!

(I love the look of elation on Big Sister’s face here!)

And this photo of her big brother makes me melt. It might be one of my favorite kid photos of all time. They had just snacked on giant suckers and he had a little on his face and shirt…:)

2014 Senior – Alex

My first Class of 2014 senior! I always get so excited to shoot the newest group of Twin Cities seniors.

I spent a fair evening last week in Minneapolis with Alex and his family (more photos of all of them to come). They had all sorts of great spots for photos picked, which made my job super-fun and easy.

Alex is considering attending my alma mater, NDSU, and I did my best to convince him that would be the best choice. Go Bison! It was great meeting you, Alex; best wishes as you go through your senior year!

Sheila - Great shots! I recognize that last location . . . I took “my” (nephew) Alex there when we did his senior session a few weeks ago. Wish I’d been as clever as you! :)
